EACH YEAR, NEARLY 64,500 GRADE 9-12 STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY ENTER TO WIN THEIR SHARE OF MORE THAN $2 MILLION IN EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND INCENTIVES AWARDED THROUGH THE PROGRAM.
THIS YEAR'S THEME WAS: "AMERICA: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE."
2021-2022 PATRIOTS PEN WINNER FOR VFW POST 8371
Congratulations to Sarah Readlinger - Wilberforce Elementary School 7th Grade Student
EACH YEAR MORE THAN 165,400 STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-8 ENTER THE VFW'SPATRIOTS PEN YOUTH ESSAY CONTEST FOR A CHANCE TO WIN THEIR SHARE OF $1.4 MILLION IN STATE AND NATIONAL AWARDS. EACH FIRST PLACE STATE WINNER RECEIVES A MINIMUM OF $ 500 AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL, AND THE NATIONAL FIRST PLACE WINER WINS $5,000.
THE ESSAY CONTEST ENCOURAGES YOUNG MINDS TO EXAMINE AMERICA'S HISTORY, ALONG WITH THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES IN MODERN AMERICAN SOCIETY, BY DRAFTING A 300 - 400 WORD ESSAY, EXPRESSING THEIR VIEWS BASED ON A PATRIOTIC THEME: THIS YEARS THEME WAS " HOW CAN I BE A GOOD AMERICAN"?
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle and patriotism is loyalty to that principle.
